All Souls

I think remembering the dead is an important and meaningful part of religion, one which I think is largely ignored in North America. All Saints day (today) is the day for remembering "saints" in Catholicism (and some other Christian groups).

All Souls day (Nov. 2) is the day in some forms of Christianity for honoring and remembering the dead. Both days are probably rooted in European pagan tradition (probably Celtic), which for me gives it even more importance as an expression of religious belief.

And so, I offer my own prayer today:

Lord of Life and Death- Creator, Sustainer, Destroyer, Re-maker; today I remember all of my family, friends, pets, and other loved ones who have passed into death. May they rest in your eternal Peace, Love and undying Compassion for ever and ever, Amen.
