The "B" word

I was reading Progressive Ink's post on the Commission on Appraisal's "Engaging our Theological Diversity" report. PI discusses the inclusion of "boundaries" in the report, his support for them, and rather succinctly says that boundaries are needed because "...the lack of boundaries renders any religion cheap or flimsy, at least in the eyes of the would-be religious we desperately need to reach."

Wow. I agree wholeheartedly. And I had a discussion about this, to some extent, last night with a dear old friend of mine who is about to start his first year at Starr King.

A lack of depth is one thing that UUism sometimes suffers from; creating boundaries will help address that problem.

Thanks to PI for the update, and I think I'm going to have to shell out $14 for my own copy...
